Elder, Bishop, Overseer and Pastor are terms used to describe a man who is responsible to lead, preach, teach, help the spiritually weak, care for the church and raise up other leaders.  The Scriptures set forth the office of elder as a high calling, a sobering responsibility and a vital ministry in the local church.  While an elder may not consider himself "worthy" of this task, he should nevertheless desire to do this work, believe that God has called him to it and assume the role willingly and with joy (1 Timothy 3:1-2; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:2-3.)
