Faith Community Church Values |
|
|
|
We value the Bible; therefore we are committed to using it as the basis of our preaching, teaching, and counseling and the ultimate standard by which we live our lives (2 Tim. 3:16,17; 2 Pe. 1:3; Jn. 17:17)
- We stand firmly where God's Word has clearly drawn a line, but extend grace and freedom where it has not (1 Cor. 4:6; Gal. 5:1,13).
- God's Word was never intended to be worshipped or simply cherished; it's God's tool to produce change in the hearer. Therefore our goal is not simply that you would "know" but that you would "grow" (2 Tim. 3:17; Ja. 1:22; Heb. 4:12).
We value the gospel of Jesus Christ; therefore we are committed to training our people to be missionaries, both here in the Santa Clarita Valley and around the world (Matt. 28:19,20; Acts 1:8).
- Everyone who calls Faith Community Church his or her home church bears the responsibility of being the aroma of Christ wherever he or she is planted (2 Cor. 2:15; Acts 1:8). This includes both the verbal proclamation of the gospel, and also charitable living that seeks to meet the needs of others (James 2:15-17; 1 John 3:17,18; Matt. 5:16).
- We will preach the gospel which shares God's great story of restoring men and women to right relationship with God and with each other (2 Cor. 5:18,19; Eph. 2:11-22).
- We will celebrate the birth of new members into God's family with joy and excitement (Lk. 15:7).
We value the priority of the local church in God's plan for the world; therefore we are committed to planting churches (Matt. 16:18; Eph. 3:1-13).
- We desire to grow through the multiplication of new churches rather than becoming one numerically large church.
- We are committed to sending our best out in church planting efforts (Acts 13:1-3)
We value Biblical community that fosters spiritual growth; therefore we are committed to building authentic relationships through small groups or any other method that connects people relationally (Acts 2:42; Jn. 13:35; 1 Cor. 12:12; Eph. 4:1-16).
- Everyone who makes Faith Community Church his or her church home should be connected relationally so that others are aware of both their joys and their needs (1 Cor. 12:25,26).
- We will not create programs or services which will compete with the time needed to build authentic relationships.
- We believe that Biblical community extends beyond just our local body. Therefore we seek to maintain the unity of Christ's universal body by seeking to cooperate with other gospel-preaching churches when possible (Phil. 1:15-18; Eph. 4:4; Gal. 3:28,29) and by seeking to edify other ministries with our words.
We value spiritual maturity (Christ-likeness); therefore we are committed to intentional discipleship (Eph. 4:11-16; 2 Tim. 2:2; Phil. 3:8,9).
- We have defined spiritual maturity as we see it portrayed in Scripture so that we can all move toward this common goal (Phil. 3:12-14).
- We believe that discipleship involves more than simply informing people; it must be relational (2 Tim. 2:2; 2 Thess. 3:9; Phil. 3:17).
- An integral part of the maturation process is helping people identify and utilize their spiritual gift(s) for the benefit of the entire body (1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4:7-16).
We value prayer; therefore we are committed to praying corporately and individually (Matt. 6:5-15; 7:7-11; Ja. 5:16).
- We seek to develop a "pray without ceasing" mentality among all our members (1 Thess. 5:17; Eph. 6:18).
- Prayer will saturate all our ministries rather than being confined to specific prayer meetings.
We value worship; therefore we are committed to encouraging our people to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:21-24; Ex. 7:16; Eph. 1:3-14).
- Our worship must involve our whole person - body, mind, soul, emotions - as we glorify God whom we value most.
- We will seek to express the beauty of God's holiness to His people (Ps. 29:2; 27:4; 1 Chr. 16:25) and allow all of God's beauty to evoke within us a sense of awe and reverence (Ps. 19:1; 96:6).
- We will encourage our people to live a life of constant worship (Rom. 12:1,2; Gal. 2:20; 1 Cor. 10:31).
